-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CANcardX Win95 Plug&Play Drivers and Firmware Vector Informatik GmbH, Stuttgart -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 24.08.2001 Driver Version: 2.6 Firmware Version: 1.50 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vector Informatik GmbH Ingersheimer Straße 24 70499 Stuttgart, Germany Phone: 0049 - (0)711 - 80670 - 0 Fax: 0049 - (0)711 - 80670 - 111 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General Information ------------------- This driver allows access to a CANcardX within WINDOWS 95 by Vector applications like CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape or by your own applications. You can use this driver disk for a first installation (see section First Installation) as well as for a driver and firmware update (see section Driver and Firmware Update). The CANcardX driver consists of three parts: 1. CANcardX Firmware 2. Virtual device driver (VXD) 3. Dynamic link library (DLL) The DLL is located in the applications EXEC directory. If you are running several applications for CANcardX, you have to update the DLL for all applications. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Installation: ------------------- - Insert the Card - Follow the instructions of Windows95. If there is a "file not found" error message, please specify this directory as the source directory again. - There should be an audio signal each time the card is inserted (high tone) or removed. If not: - Check that the drivers apear in the hardware managers tree at PCMCIA. - Check that the cards interrupt and port are configured correctly. - Check for error messages in the CAN control panel at diagnostics. - Make sure Win95 PCMCIA 32 support is installed (click pcmcia in the control panel) Now install your application (CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape or Library) if not already done. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Driver and Firmware Update: ---------------------------- Please check your driver and firmware version if an update is needed. You have to insert a CANcardX. 1. Firmware To check the firmwareversion, start linfo from this directory. Current firmware is shuffle V1.50.025 2. Virtual device driver To check the virtual device driver, start vcanconf.exe from this directory and choose diagnostic. Current version is VCAND V2.6d VCANCARD V2.6D 3. Dynamic link library To check the DLL-Version, go to CANWIN\EXEC for CANalyzer/CANoe or CANape32\EXEC for CANape. Current version is CANDRV.DLL V2.6 CANDRV32.DLL V2.6 (A user DLL is supplied with the library-pack.) To update firmware and driver, make sure all applications, especially vcanconf.exe, are closed. Start setup.exe from this directory and follow the instructions on screen. Choose "Typical" to update firmware, VXD and DLL (recommended). The setup programm will ask for the directory where you have installed your CANalyzer, CANoe or CANape in order to exchange the DLL. The option "custom" allows to install individually firmwareupdate or driverupdate (VXD and DLL). Check the firmware- and driverversions after the update. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manual Updates (only advanced users): ----------------------------------------- It is also possible to do some updates without using the setup program. Update Firmware: To update the CANcardX firmware, remove the card and insert it again. Then start PROM32.EXE on the driver disk. > a: > PROM32.EXE Update Application Drivers: Usually the application CAN drivers are installed by the applications installation program. To update the application CAN driver manually just copy CANDRV32.DLL to your application directory. Note: This is required for CANalyzer (Version less 3.0), CANoe (Version less 3.0), CANape (Version less 3.1) and ProCANopen. Example: - copy a:\candrv32.dll c:\Program Files\CANalyzer\exec32\candrv32.dll - copy a:\candrv32.dll c:\Program Files\CANape\exec\candrv32.dll --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VCANconf: (CAN Hardware configuration Utility) ========= The VCANconf configuration utility gives you the ability to configurate all installed Vector CAN Hardware. It is located in your Control Panel under 'CAN-Hardware' or on your CAN-Driver disc. It is divided into three sections named 'Configuration', 'Driverstatus' and 'Diagnostic'. 1. Configuration: ----------------- On the left side of the Window a tree view of all hardware is visible. It can be expanded by clicking on the '+' in front of each entry. Then all channels of this hardware appear. In the next layer you can see which software is routed to this Channel. Configure CAN-Hardware: ----------------------- To configur on hardware press the right mouse button on the selected entry in the tree view. Then select 'Configure Device' from the popup menu. A device dependant configuration Window appears which gives you the ability to make all necesary settings. 2. Driverstatus: ---------------- The 'Driverstatus' window gives you information on all active applications using CAN devices and the status off all CAN channels. 3. Diagnostic: -------------- The 'Diagnostic' window shows messages genarated by the CAN Driver. There you can see which hardware has been detected or which error occured. If one Device don´t work properly it is usefull to check the error or warning messages. 4. Global Settings: ------------------- In the "Global Settings" window you can activate or deactivate the CAN Hardware Synchronization. CAN Hardware Synchronization must be activated when CAN Channels from more than one hardware are used, i.e. Virtual Channels and real Channels or Channels from two CANcardX. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files: ------ File Description Location -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- cancardx.inf CANcardX installation script a: vcand.vxd Basic driver \windows\system vcancard.vxd CANcardX driver \windows\system candrv.dll Application interface driver 16 bit \canwin\exec candrv32.dll Application interface driver 32 bit \canape32\exec vcanconf.exe Configuration panel \windows\system vcancpa.cpl btest32.exe Test application linfo.exe Prints some information about the card prom32.exe Firmware programming utility ccfw150.h86 Firmware
